[ARCHIVED] New Rules for Visitors to Nursing Homes

State Issues New Rules for Visitors to Nursing Homes, Including Van Rensselaer Manor

New York State has issued new COVID-19 testing requirements for visitors to nursing homes, meaning new rules for visitors are being implemented at the county’s Van Rensselaer Manor, county officials announced on Thursday.

The new mandate from the state for visitors to state-licensed nursing homes requires proof of a negative rapid test one-day before a visit and proof of a negative PCR test two-days before a visit. The new state rules for nursing homes take effect immediately.

Visitors to nursing homes will also be required to wear appropriate masks when visiting, including in resident rooms, according to the new state mandate.

For the time being, the Manor will be utilizing visiting hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., each day.

The Manor is expected to receive an allotment of home test kits for use by visitors to the nursing home. Visitors will be able to use a home test on the premises for proof of a negative test.

Personnel at nursing homes will continue to be required to be current with vaccinations, and continue to utilize masks while working.
