[ARCHIVED] County Route 4 Bridge in Schodack to be Reopened Tomorrow

The County Route 4 (Van Hoesen Road) bridge will be reopened to traffic tomorrow, Tuesday, November 16. Rensselaer County officials will hold a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m., with the bridge expected to reopen for traffic following the event.

The CR4 bridge is located adjacent to the historic Mesick farm, which features a large herd of buffalo. The bridge has been closed since December 2019 after structural defects were found in materials used for the bridge. The bridge has been constructed 25 years prior. There were delays in obtaining needed approval from the railroad.

County Executive Steve McLaughlin tomorrow will also be renewing his call for expediting the process by railroads for approval of bridge replacements over railroad tracks. As McLaughlin has noted, the process for approval by the railroad typically takes years, while the construction process is much shorter.
