Troy, NY --Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced that Earnest Hartfield, age 47, of East Greenbush, was sentenced today. On May 16, 2022, a jury returned a guilty verdict after a week-long trial. Hartfield was found guilty of Assault in the First Degree, a class B violent felony in violation of Section 120.10 (1); Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony, in violation of Section 120.05 (1); and Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony, in violation of Section 120.05 (2), of the Penal Law of the State of New York.
Hartfield was sentenced to a determinate term of 15 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision on the Assault in the First Degree conviction and 7 years for the Assault in the Second Degree conviction. The terms will run concurrently. Hartfield was found guilty of attacking his victim with a frying pan in February 2020.
“The East Greenbush Police Department’s efforts to collect key evidence were especially helpful in the success of this case, as the victim recanted and ultimately refused to testify at the trial,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.
Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane prosecuted the case.
