JOSEPH MAZZARIELLO NOMINATED AS COMMISSIONER OF DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING

JOSEPH MAZZARIELLO NOMINATED AS COMMISSIONER OF RENSSELAER COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING, COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE MCLAUGHLIN ANNOUNCES

A new leader for the Rensselaer County Department of Employment and Training has been selected, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced today.

Joseph Mazzariello has been nominated by McLaughlin to serve as Commissioner. The nomination will be considered at the June meeting of the County Legislature.

Mazzariello would replace Brian Williams, who served as E&T Commissioner but is now working as Executive Director of the Capital Region Workforce Development Board. The Capital Region Workforce Development Board includes three counties, Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady.

Mazzariello has worked for the county since 2012, and is now an employee of the county Department of Social Services. He has worked in employee relations, recruitment and retention efforts at DSS and the Van Rensselaer Manor.

“Joseph Mazzariello has the experience and training needed to continue the important mission of the county Department of Employment and Training in the coming months and years. Joe has been a solid employee for the county during his career and we appreciate his willingness to take on a new leadership role,” said McLaughlin.

“The labor market is fluid and changing regularly, and there is an increased demand on finding new and skilled workers for jobs across the spectrum. We expect the Employment and Training office to be busy and vital in the coming months, helping connect workers and employers across the county,” said McLaughlin

The county Department of Employment and Training provides training and skills instruction for underemployed and unemployed individuals to access sustainable and long-term employment. During 2021, the department served 1200 individuals. The E&T office is located in the current County Office Building in downtown Troy.

During the pandemic, a number of counseling services and training have been offered virtually from the E&T offices. The department is recipient of federal and state funding for training and skills training services.

Mazzariello is a resident of Brunswick and is a graduate of the College of St. Rose. He is a lifelong resident of Rensselaer County.

“I am pleased to have Joseph Mazzariello join us as part of the Capital Region Career Centers leadership team from Rensselaer County,” states Brian Williams, Executive Director of the Capital Region Workforce Development Board.  “The Workforce Development Board is excited to work with Mr. Mazzariello in continuing the region’s mission in providing comprehensive workforce development services by assisting individuals to identify career pathways and connect businesses to skilled workers through our sponsored Career Center in Rensselaer County.”
