Frequently Asked Questions

Questions:

Answers:

Q: Why do I get asked so many questions when I call for an ambulance?
A: Rensselaer County has a program in place called Medical Priorities. Basically the program through a series of medical questions determines the severity of the medical condition. Based on the answers to the questions, the proper level of care and response mode is determined. Also with this system the dispatcher is able to provide medical instruction such as CPR or controlling bleeding to the caller.

Q: If I have a problem with a dispatcher or questions about an incident I called in, how do I go about finding out what went wrong?
A: Rensselaer County has an Incident Inquiry policy just for this purpose. If you have a question or need to find out about an incident that the Communications Center handled call 270-4160 ext 320. A written Incident Inquiry form needs to be completed before the Inquiry can take place.
