Troy- Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino announced the results of the first report from ProAct, the County’s Prescription Discount Card.  The report covers approximately 2 weeks of usage from the launch of the program on Monday, January 16^th until January 31^st.  The cards were mailed out countywide and should have been received during the week of January 16^th.  During that time period 305 prescriptions were filled at a savings of $8,051.51, a price savings of 43%.

“These savings are truly astonishing and I am hopeful that even more residents will take advantage of this program that offers significant savings on their prescription medication costs,” said Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino.

The ProAct Discount Prescription program provides users with discounts ranging from 10 to 20 percent on brand name drugs and 20 to 70 percent on generic drugs. While the program will be of most benefit to residents lacking prescription drug insurance, all Rensselaer County residents, regardless of income or age, can use the card. The cards cannot be used in conjunction with any other type of insurance or to discount co-pays. Residents who currently have insurance can use the card in the event that a particular drug is not covered under their current insurance plan.

Using the card is easy, simply present the card to the pharmacy along with a new prescription or refill to receive savings. The card can be used at most pharmacies in the County and at over 56,000 pharmacies nationwide. One discount card may be used for all family members and can also be used for discounts on pet medications. There are no enrollment forms, membership fees or income requirements.
